JÖRG STÜDEMANN

Stadtdirektor Dortmund

In pursuit of the 2030 Agenda, the well-being of the African continent has become a global, continental, and communal issue. The theme poverty alleviation, equal opportunity and education   prevents the causes of migration from Africa and help fight poverty as well as to facilitate integration and participation and for the African diaspora living in Germany.

A strong, diverse and promising Germany depends on access to education and opportunities for the participation of individuals in order to prevent skills shortages, to strengthen the economy and to relieve households.

Social responsibility and justice - local and global - are important to us the city of Dortmund, the European Commune generally and together we want to stand up for a peaceful, constructive and future-oriented cooperation.

North Rhine-Westphalia is home to most migrants from sub-Saharan Africa. People with a migrant background or migration history from almost 200 nations live in the Ruhr Metropolis alone. Dortmund, the largest city in the metropolis, is home to more than 17,000 Africans, with over 1,000 students. As an expanding international research, service and logistics location in the heart of the Rural area, our city is developing into a multifaceted and sustainable business hub.

Thus, Dortmund offers itself as a venue to deliberate and brainstorm on topics that relates to the future of the resource-rich continent and its European diaspora, to strive for a future-oriented cooperation and to address the formative global issues of our time together.

With this in mind, I as the director of the city of Dortmund, wish AfricanTide Union e.V., a very successful and productive conference and deliberation this year as we work together with international experts to develop solutions for the political and social development of Europe and Africa.
