AfricanTideWHO WE ARE

WHAT WE DO

The AfricanTide Association is a dynamic diaspora-led association that bridges Africa and Europe through innovation, collaboration, and community empowerment. First established in 2007 in Dortmund, Germany, the Association was founded on the belief that the African diaspora holds a vital role in shaping sustainable development both within Europe and across the African continent.

From the beginning, our mission has been to create pathways for integration and intercultural understanding, ensuring that migrants and their families not only adapt successfully in new environments but also preserve and celebrate their cultural heritage. Over the years, AfricanTide Association has become a hub for education, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, offering practical programmes that strengthen both individuals and communities.

We actively promote good governance by encouraging transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership. Through youth-focused initiatives, we equip the next generation with leadership training, critical thinking skills, and mentorship opportunities that prepare them to contribute meaningfully to governance and development.

Our economic empowerment programmes provide entrepreneurial support, capacity-building workshops, and networking opportunities that connect emerging innovators with experienced professionals and markets across continents. At the same time, our social support projects including cultural dialogues, integration programmes, and community events help to break down barriers and foster stronger, more resilient societies.

Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to building stronger communities and creating sustainable opportunities for growth. By linking Africa and Europe through people, knowledge, and resources, the AfricanTide Association demonstrates how the power of diaspora engagement can transform lives, strengthen institutions, and inspire a shared future of progress and unity.

A Meeting Place for Single Mothers

Support Initiative for Single Mothers with a Migrant Background

Single mothers with a migrant background in Germany often face multiple and overlapping challenges that hinder their social integration and participation. Limited German language proficiency, social isolation, insufficient familiarity with the German education system, and other structural barriers frequently create significant difficulties in their everyday lives.

In response to these challenges, AfricanTide implemented a women’s support course specifically designed for mothers with a migrant background. The project aimed to strengthen participants’ awareness of the specific difficulties they face as single mothers living in Germany, particularly in relation to intercultural realities and integration-related obstacles. At the same time, the course sought to equip them with practical problem-solving strategies and tools to better manage these challenges.

An important component of the initiative was the promotion of networking and peer support among participants. By creating a platform for exchange, the project enabled the women to share experiences, discuss common concerns, and jointly develop possible solutions to everyday problems. This network was intended to continue beyond the duration of the seminar, thereby fostering longer-term mutual support.

The course applied participatory and interactive learning methods, including role plays, small group work, and facilitated discussions. These methods contributed to a dynamic learning environment and supported the development of participants’ creativity, motivation, and self-confidence.

The project received very positive feedback and demonstrated strong relevance to the needs of the target group. Owing to its successful implementation and encouraging response from participants, the course was repeated successfully in 2015.

MultiTrain – Vocational Teachers Training Collaboration

A joint initiative between AfricanTide and GIZ Germany aimed at strengthening the quality of vocational education in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The project focused on equipping vocational teachers with the professional skills, knowledge, and teaching competence needed to train apprentices more effectively in technical and vocational settings.

The programme provided participants with a solid foundation in the psychology of learning, pedagogy, and didactic theory, helping them understand how learners acquire knowledge and how teaching processes can be designed in a more structured and effective way. Its curriculum was based on competence models from industrial-technical vocational training, enabling teachers to align their teaching with practical workforce needs and the realities of a changing technological environment.

A key feature of the project was the development of models for multiple competencies and for the holistic solution of professional tasks, which gave teachers practical tools to improve the way they prepare students for employment. As a result, the project strengthened teachers’ ability to deliver relevant, forward-looking vocational training and is expected to contribute to better-prepared students and a more capable workforce in Bayelsa State and the wider Niger Delta Region.

Overall, the collaboration made an important contribution to vocational education by improving teaching quality, supporting modern skills development, and promoting more effective participation in the technological world of work.
