1. Introduction: The Day of African Unity event was organized to celebrate and reflect on the significance of the African Union, its history, and its relevance in today’s world. It aimed to provide a platform for interactive discussions, creative expressions, and understanding the unity and diversity of Africa.
2. Event Commencement: Dr. RosaLyn Dressman, the chairperson of our association, commenced the event with a heartfelt welcome, setting a warm tone for the day’s proceedings.
3. Discussions and Deliberations: The highlight of the event was a comprehensive presentation on the African Union, where Dr. Dressman delved into its history, its importance for Africa, and the implications it holds for diaspora Africans.
This was followed by an animated panel discussion, featuring a mix of invited guests. Topics ranged from new inequalities emerging in Africa to development policy issues on the continent. A significant portion of the discussion was dedicated to issues on the job market, the commitment levels of authorities and migrants, and the socio-political challenges facing African nations.
Engaging the audience was of paramount importance, as evidenced by the lively interaction. Attendees actively engaged by posing questions and sharing their views, adding depth to the discourse.
4. Youth Engagement: Parallelly, a workshop was conducted for children and teenagers. This hands-on session allowed the younger generation to delve into the topic of Africa creatively. Their collective efforts bore fruit in the form of a vibrant poster, symbolizing Africa’s diverse tapestry.
The workshop also included drumming sessions and singing, providing an acoustic representation of Africa’s rich cultural heritage. The event’s educational climax was a wool-knitting activity, where children wove a net resembling a spider web. This tangible metaphor was employed to teach them the core message: No African country can thrive in isolation, and unity is paramount.

It was not just an event but an experience, a melding of voices, thoughts, and cultures. The day was a testament to the importance of cultural understanding and the power of unity.
