A joint initiative between AfricanTide and GIZ Germany aimed at strengthening the quality of vocational education in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The project focused on equipping vocational teachers with the professional skills, knowledge, and teaching competence needed to train apprentices more effectively in technical and vocational settings.
The programme provided participants with a solid foundation in the psychology of learning, pedagogy, and didactic theory, helping them understand how learners acquire knowledge and how teaching processes can be designed in a more structured and effective way. Its curriculum was based on competence models from industrial-technical vocational training, enabling teachers to align their teaching with practical workforce needs and the realities of a changing technological environment.
A key feature of the project was the development of models for multiple competencies and for the holistic solution of professional tasks, which gave teachers practical tools to improve the way they prepare students for employment. As a result, the project strengthened teachers’ ability to deliver relevant, forward-looking vocational training and is expected to contribute to better-prepared students and a more capable workforce in Bayelsa State and the wider Niger Delta Region.
Overall, the collaboration made an important contribution to vocational education by improving teaching quality, supporting modern skills development, and promoting more effective participation in the technological world of work.
